Chandigarh, 10th September 2025: Shaurya Binu made history as the inaugural leader of the Indian Golf Pro League (IGPL), carding a resilient 3-under 69 at the rain-affected but impressively prepared Chandigarh Golf Club. The 24-year-old from Bengaluru recovered from a shaky start (2-over after six) with a strong finish, including three closing birdies, to take a one-shot lead.

Sharing second at 2-under 70 were veteran Gaganjeet Bhullar, consistent performer M Dharma, and promising amateur Krish Chawla. Local favourite Harendra Gupta was the only other player to finish under par with a 71.

The IGPL, boasting a ₹1.5 crore purse, also marked a major step for teenaged debutants Veer Ganapathy, Kartik Singh, and Raghav Chugh — all shooting 1-over 73 in their first professional appearances, having played together in the opening group.

IGPL CEO Uttam Singh Mundy hailed the day as a “red-letter day for Indian golf,” praising the course staff, the competitive setup, and the inclusion of women professionals and amateurs — a notable first in Indian professional golf.

Among the 10 women in the field, Jahanvi Bakshi led the charge with a 1-over 73 on her return from injury, followed by Khushi Khanijau and rising amateur star Mannat Brar, both at 75.

Bhullar, who also pledged $100,000 for flood relief in Punjab, commended the club’s rapid recovery post-monsoon and called the IGPL’s launch timely and impactful. “The presence of young debutants alongside seasoned pros sends a strong message — the next generation is here,” he said.

Binu, who turned pro in 2023 and recently switched coaches to Laurence Brotheridge, credited the change for his improved form. “The setup felt international, and everything exceeded expectations,” he remarked.
