New Delhi, August 18, 2025 – The Internet and Mobile Association of India (IAMAI) has welcomed the Ministry of Information and Broadcasting’s decision to establish a dedicated task force to tackle online piracy.

Calling it a timely move, IAMAI’s Digital Entertainment Committee (DEC) emphasized the task force’s potential to strengthen enforcement under the Cinematograph Amendment Act 2023. The 2024 Rob Report, co-published by EY and IAMAI, highlighted that India’s entertainment industry loses ₹224 billion annually to piracy, with 51% of consumers accessing illegal content.

Kiran Mani, CEO of JioStar and DEC Chair, said IAMAI’s participation will bring industry expertise into actionable strategies. Co-Chair Deepit Purkayastha, CEO of Inshorts, noted that this is a critical opportunity for collaboration between the industry and government.

With legal backing and unified industry support, the task force marks a significant step in protecting India’s creative economy and expanding its global reach.
