C-DOT Celebrates 42nd Foundation Day, Showcases Innovation in Telecom and Digital Security

New Delhi, August 25, 2025 : The Centre for Development of Telematics (C-DOT), India’s premier telecom R&D institution under the Department of Telecommunications, celebrated its 42nd Foundation Day at its Delhi campus. Established in 1984, C-DOT has been instrumental in shaping India’s telecom landscape through indigenous innovation.

The event was inaugurated by Dr. Chandra Sekhar Pemmasani, Minister of State for Communications and Rural Development, who highlighted C-DOT’s vital role in securing India’s digital infrastructure. He called C-DOT engineers “guardians of India’s digital borders” and urged the institution to aim for global leadership in telecom by 2047.

Dr. Neeraj Mittal, Secretary (Telecom), lauded C-DOT’s efforts in advancing indigenous technology and reaffirmed the government’s support in fulfilling the vision of Atmanirbhar Bharat.

C-DOT CEO Dr. Rajkumar Upadhyay shared recent achievements, including AI-based systems that helped disconnect over 5 crore fraudulent connections, curbing cyber fraud.

The event featured expert talks on AI, 6G, cybersecurity, and quantum communications by leading voices from IITs, IISc, and industry. A new initiative, NIDHI, was launched to support women-led startups in the ICT sector, with 10 entrepreneurs receiving R&D grants.

Over four decades, C-DOT has led India’s digital journey—from rural connectivity to cutting-edge 5G and emerging 6G research—solidifying its position at the heart of India’s telecom self-reliance.
