Goa, December 7, 2025: Around 12:00 a.m. on December 7, 2025, a fire broke out at the nightclub Birch by Romeo Lane in Arpora village, North Goa.
Tragically, 25 lives have been lost and six persons were injured. Among the deceased are club staff members and several tourists. The injured individuals are currently receiving treatment and are reported to be in stable condition.
The state government, led by Pramod Sawant, has expressed deep sorrow and announced that a magisterial inquiry has been ordered to investigate the circumstances leading to the blaze, including potential violations of fire-safety norms and building regulations. Additionally, the club’s general manager has been arrested, and an arrest warrant has been issued for the owner.
In light of this tragedy, the state government calls for enhanced vigilance of fire-safety compliance across all public entertainment venues. Families of the deceased will receive financial assistance from the central relief fund, and support is being extended to the injured.
The Prime Minister, Shri Narendra Modi has condoled the loss of lives in fire mishap in Arpora, Goa. Shri Modi also wished speedy recovery for those injured in the mishap.
The Prime Minister informed that he has spoken to Goa Chief Minister Dr. Pramod Sawant regarding the situation. He stated that the State Government is providing all possible assistance to those affected by the tragedy.
The Prime Minister also announced an ex-gratia from PMNRF of Rs. 2 lakh to the next of kin of each deceased and Rs. 50,000 for those injured.
