New Delhi: The Bharatiya RMS & MMS Employees Union Class-III and the Bharatiya RMS & MMS Mail Guard & MTS Union have announced an agitation against proposals to close RMS offices or merge them with other divisions, abolish RMS Transit Sections, and replace the Mail Motor Service with private RTN operations. The two organisations said that if their demands are not addressed positively, they will launch an indefinite peaceful hunger strike at Dak Bhawan, New Delhi, from October 12.
The announcement was made at a press conference held in New Delhi. Those who addressed the media included Anant Kumar Pal, General Secretary, Bharatiya Dak Karmachari Mahasangh, Rajesh Kumar, National General Secretary, Bharatiya RMS & MMS Employees Union Class-III, Triloki Tandon, National General Secretary, Bharatiya RMS & MMS Mail Guard & MTS Union and Santosh Kumar Singh, Patron and former General Secretary, Bharatiya Dak Karmachari Mahasangh.
The union leaders demanded that the process of closing RMS offices or merging them with other divisions be stopped immediately. They also called for withdrawal of the proposal to abolish RMS Transit Sections and urged the department to reconsider the move to operate private RTN services in place of the departmental Mail Motor Service.
Rajesh Kumar, National General Secretary of the Bharatiya RMS & MMS Employees Union Class-III, said that if the government’s proposal to use private RTN services for mail transportation is implemented, the impact would not be limited to employees. It could also increase the financial burden on postal consumers and may result in longer delivery times.
He further said that the security of postal articles would become a major concern if private operators were brought into the mail transportation system. According to him, the existing postal system has maintained a good record in ensuring the confidentiality and safe transportation of question papers for competitive examinations. Against the backdrop of concerns surrounding the reported NEET-UG 2026 question paper leak, he said, the security and confidentiality of examination papers have assumed even greater importance.
Kumar said that instead of weakening the existing system, the RMS and Mail Motor Service should be strengthened. He also demanded that the posts, service conditions, seniority and future service security of employees working in RMS and Mail Motor Service be protected.
Triloki Tandon, National General Secretary of the Bharatiya RMS & MMS Mail Guard & MTS Union, said the proposals to abolish Transit Sections and replace the departmental Mail Motor Service with a private system should be put on hold immediately. He stressed the need to strengthen the departmental system and called for immediate bilateral talks between the department and the two unions on all the issues raised by the employees.
Santosh Kumar Singh, Patron and former General Secretary of the Bharatiya Dak Karmachari Mahasangh, said the unions had raised their demands with the department during several meetings. However, as no satisfactory action had followed, the organisations had been compelled to announce the agitation.
The union leaders urged the department to take a positive decision and reconsider the proposed changes before the agitation begins. They reiterated that if their demands are not addressed, the indefinite hunger strike at Dak Bhawan will commence from October 12.
