England bounced back in style to defeat India by four wickets in a thrilling second T20 International at Old Trafford, Manchester, on July 4. Chasing a challenging target of 191, the hosts produced a composed batting display led by Jacob Bethell, who played a sensational unbeaten knock to level the five-match series.
India Post a Competitive 190/7
After winning the toss, India elected to bat first and got off to a positive start. Young sensation Vaibhav Sooryavanshi made his much-awaited international debut and entertained fans with two towering sixes before being dismissed for 14.
Ishan Kishan anchored the innings with a fluent 49, while captain Shreyas Iyer contributed a valuable 37. Abhishek Sharma also provided an aggressive start, helping India reach a competitive total of 190/7 in their 20 overs.
England’s bowling was led by Sam Curran, who claimed three wickets and prevented India from crossing the 200-run mark despite a strong platform.
Jacob Bethell Steals the Show
England’s chase got off to the worst possible start as both openers, Phil Salt and Jos Buttler, were dismissed in the opening over by Arshdeep Singh.
However, Jacob Bethell remained calm under pressure and produced one of the finest innings of his T20I career. His unbeaten 76 off 46 balls shifted the momentum back in England’s favour, with excellent support from Harry Brook and Tom Banton.
A decisive assault in the final overs, including a game-changing over against Ravi Bishnoi, ensured England reached 191/6 in 19 overs, sealing victory with six balls to spare.
